about

Ever wondered what the soundtrack to an evening of fondue, snowballs and hot knives with Noddy Holder, Can, Bruce Forsyth, The Who and Roy North would sound like? The answer is here in ‘Supersmash’, an album of smash ups cooked up by Mongo Shakers.

Each song has been plotted, compiled, cajoled and blended by Matt Button on a laptop using Garageband and You Tube. Additional guitar and bass seasoning is from Ayr’s finest teenage guitar prodigy (circa 1979), Richard “Fergusonics” Ferguson. Arrangements, samples, editing, mixing and production and extra rhythm tracks are by Matt Button.

This album features walloping double drums, fuzz bass, big men handclapping, TV adverts, theme tunes, idents and audio tomfoolery. There are 7 tracks and over 35 different artists sampled, repurposed, reconstituted and generally made fun of. But this is not po-faced Post Modernism, it’s a heartfelt celebration and rewriting of a fondly mis-remembered 70s childhood.

about

Mongo Shakers London, UK

Mongo Shakers music is an audio casserole of mis-remembered 70s Smash Ups, prog hop, mind funk and audio tomfoolery.
They come from the creative community in Shoreditch in the 90s. The founders, Matt Button and the late Chris Grayson RIP, ran studios where free jazz maestros, punk poet lunatics and earnest young junglists jammed, and recorded.
They now live on a laptop by Teddington Lock.
